Question #100896

There is a building that is under construction. The unique thing about this building is that it has all its sides equal and has an angle of 90° from floor. Now there is a problem that engineers are facing... That is they forget to leave a place for the window in two of the walls.

Now, you have to help the engineers in deriving a formula for a window in a wall that has all its sides equal and is forming a 90°angle from all its side.

Engineers have given you the following information,

1. One side of wall is 12m

2. One side of a window is of 200cm.

There is also one condition, while making a window it is must to keep the window exactly in the middle of wall.

You are required to derive a formula for....

1. Area of wall

2. Area of window

Also, sketch the figure for this problem.

Good luck.

Expert's answer

If the window has to be in the middle of the wall then the window must be a square of dimension 200x200

so the area of the window = (200*200)cm2 = 40000cm2 = 4m2

area of the wall including the window =(12*12)m2 = 144m2

area of the wall excluding the window area = (144-4)m2 = 140m2

Figure of the above problem is attached below
