Question #114326

In a road worthiness test on 40 cars. 60% passed. The number that failed had faults in clutch, brakes and steering as follows: Clutch only - 28; clutch and steering - 14; clutch, steering and brakes - 8; clutch and brakes - 20; brakes are steering only - 6.

The number of cars with faults in steering only is twice the number of cars with faults in brakes only.

(i) draw a Venn diagram to illustrate the information

(ii) how many cars had:

(a) Faulty breaks?

(b) Only one fault?

Expert's answer

number of cars passed the test =4060100=2440*\frac{60}{100}=24

number of cars failed the test =16

in the question total cars are 40 and 60% of them are passed. Therefore only 16 cars have faults. But 28 cars have clutch only faults (Clutch only - 28). So there is contradiction. Therefore question has a an issue. I made the Venn diagram for given information. please checked the question and notify.

Look at number which are circled by red. Those are contradict the venn diagram idea.
