How do I find the absolute maximum and minimum values of 1/3x^3-2x?
I already know the answers to this question, but I cannot figure out how to arrive at the answers. After differentiating the function and coming up with the critical values of +sqrt(2) and -sqrt(2), I need to know step by step how to arrive at the absolute minimum value of -4/3*sqrt(2) and the absolute maximum value of 4/3*sqrt(2). I can't figure out where the 4/3 figure is coming from or how to get to it.
