Concept development (25 minutes)
. Give each group of learners some match sticks. Ask them to build a row of three triangles such as this:(draw this on the board.)
- ask the learners if we can conclude that we need 2 matches to build every triangle. We can, but to close the last ( of first) triangle, we need an extra match:
- if we need to make a pattern of 100 triangles, it is not practical to sit and make all those triangles, so we need to establish a rule.ask the learner's if they can think of a rule. It is (number of triangles ×2)+1.so to make a pattern of 100 triangles, we work out how many matches we need like this:(100×2)+1=201.
