General solution of quadratic equations:


ax2+bx+c=0a x ^ {2} + b x + c = 0


1. Find discriminant:


D=b24acD = b ^ {2} - 4 a c


2. Find discriminant root:


D=b24ac\sqrt {D} = \sqrt {b ^ {2} - 4 a c}


3. Determine solutions:

- If D<0\sqrt{D} < 0 there is no solution

- If D>0\sqrt{D} > 0 there are two solutions

- If D=0\sqrt{D} = 0 there is one solution (or two solutions which equal to each other)

4. Find solutions


x1,2=b±D2ax _ {1, 2} = \frac {- b \pm \sqrt {D}}{2 a}
