Let x=x= the number of people in the group standing on the left side. Then 2x2x will be the number of people in the group standing on the right side.

Both groups plus 1 man is equal to 100

x+2x+1=100x+2x+1=100

3x=993x=99

x=33x=33

2x=662x=66

There are 33 people in the group standing on the left side.

There are 66 people in the group standing on the right side.
