Let $x=$ the number of people in the group standing on the left side. Then $2x$ will be the number of people in the group standing on the right side.

Both groups plus 1 man is equal to 100

$$x+2x+1=100$$

$$3x=99$$

$$x=33$$

$$2x=66$$

There are 33 people in the group standing on the left side.

There are 66 people in the group standing on the right side.
