1.5 Differentiate between learnership and apprenticeship programmes. (10)
Learnerships are available mainly for skills that the government identifies as currently being scarce, which may vary from year to year. The programme may last for 12 – 18 months and is far more structured than an apprenticeship as it includes both academic and practical experience components while apprenticeships are programmes offered to learners who want to establish a career in a practical or technical field with the aim of becoming a certified Artisan. This is a work-based route that will lead to a qualification.
