“The manager’s most basic responsibility is to focus people toward performance of work activities to achieve desired outcomes.” What’s your interpretation of this statement? Do you agree with it? Why or why not?
I agree but not completely.
You manage, work, time and resources. You lead people. Your workforce is a resource to manage but they are also people that need a leader. You must do both to be effective. Actually, a manager needs to see beyond simply focusing on outcomes and focusing staff towards them. If someone in their team is struggling, it is his/her duty to help the team member so as to understand requirements and how to contribute efficiently. So, the manager is a trainer too.
Manager’s relationship with members has to be excellent so as to get the best out of them. One's success depends on team-manageability towards accomplishment of the given task.
