A pregnant employee who violated several attendance
rules due to her physical conditions. She is about to get
fire by the HR manager of the company. Discuss what
business ethics issues present on this situation. What
can be done?
In this case, it shows harassment and discrimination to the pregnant employee. Her co-workers should understand her or give her a marital leave so that she will not cause any violated rules.
One cannot be fired for being pregnant under most circumstances. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) both prohibit U.S. employers from terminating employees due to pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions.
The law made it illegal for employers to consider pregnancy in decisions about hiring, firing and promotion. Today it offers pregnant women the same accommodations and protections as their colleagues with other kinds of health issues or disabilities people who are “similar in their ability or inability to work.”
