Answer:

Def.:

Whistleblowing helps raise the alarm on law-breaking ,crime, health and safety issues.

There are laws in place to protect us if we blow the whistle.

Reason for employees not blowing the whistle:

1.They fear dismissal in their place of work.

2.Some are victimized

3.In other problems they raise, their employer denies.

4.The employer take action in small percentage of cases raised.

a.   Here are important considerations to make before blowing the whistle:-

a. Make sure you have a valid case, whistleblowing is only meant for reporting criminal offences, regulatory breaches, health and safety. If you are reporting any of the above ;then you will be protected by law.

b. Only a true concern is reported that is whistleblowing channels should not be used to make false reports. Personal grievances are not covered by whistleblowing unless the case is in the public interest.

c. Have in mind that you are a witness not an investigator that is you are not suppose to gather inconclusive evidence of wrong doing. Know that you are a witness and observer.

d. Check the approved channel:-In the case of a company the first port of call is the manager. But also you may be encouraged to report to HR, or senior management via whistleblowing helpline , website, email, or to an independent third party.
