what are the impacts of the challenges faced by KFC on depending on other countries for logistics/delivery of key materials on consumers
KFC is a chain of fast-food restaurant in America whose headquarters are in Louisville, Kentucky and has specialized in fried chicken. It is the second-largest chain of restaurants right after McDonald's in 150 countries with 22,621 locations globally. KFC depends on other countries for delivery of key materials. There have been disruptions across the food and delivery industries currently which has been caused by shortage of HGV drivers with a reduced number of drivers in the EU after Brexit and enforcement of isolation of drivers through NHS Test and Trace. A report by The Road Haulage Association estimates the shortfall of drivers to be about 100,000.
The dependence of KFC on delivery by other countries has affected its supply and by extension has affected the customers in several ways. Since most of its outlets are run on franchise basis, it has caused a lot of inconveniences to the customers in that they do not get their orders delivered for daily usage. Again, the customers are not getting the orders they want at the restaurants or they have to wait for long before they get served. Also, there are no enough facilities at the restaurants like cups enough for the customers as one of them reported in a tweet after the major announcement of disruption of delivery and request for the customers to be patient.
