Factors or issues unions need to discuss to stem the declining trend in union membership in the pacific island country

  • workers become less interested in unions with time- this can be attributed to the fact that unions are not free. Employees have to update membership monthly fee and may be some of them are paid too little cash.
  • Lack of proper leadership within the movement- leaders need to protect the workers' rights. If this does not happen, most of the workers will decline their membership.
  • Union decisions may not be the same as individual workers' wishes. Some workers have different opinions regarding their membership for instance some workers may want to belong to more than one union and if this is not the case some members will decline their membership. Additionally, certain unions may pit workers against joining some companies.
