Covid 19 virus is started from Wuhan china in the year 2019 and has continuously spread to the rest of the world overtime to date. It has led to a global pandemic which has caused adverse challenges in the social and economic sectors. Different countries came up with restrictions and regulations to minimize human interactions hence minimizing the spread of the virus. These include social distancing, working from home, minimizing and even banning of gatherings in some countries. This has greatly affected supply chain management in many ways

The greatest effect of covid 19 pandemic on the supply chain management is the uncertainty that comes with it. There is great fluctuation in demand hence affecting the production and distribution of goods. This may lead to overproduction leading to waste of resources or underproduction leading to very high good demand that may be overwhelming.

Cessation of movements between countries and even within a country due to Covid 19 has greatly affected supply chain management. Transportation of goods require clearances which might take time leading to delay in goods delivery. Service delivery has especially been greatly affected as transporting service providers was banned.

Introduction of lockdown has led to several business entities closing down due to decrease in customer numbers. Several businesses had to lay down workers. East Asian countries account for some of the largest manufacturing industries globally. An effect in the production due to lockdown caused an international shortage of the products manufactured.  For example, parts shortage in china has caused a Korean car plant to shut down.

Covid 19 pandemic and its restrictions has clearly caused challenges to supply chain managers, some which they have managed to go around, some still affecting the global supply chain.
