The HR professional in a traditional HR management function works reactively. They don't teach workers about their responsibilities or how to accomplish their jobs; instead, they think that their managers would go over their work with them and that the employee will learn on the job. They try to resolve employee issues, manage labor relations, and keep their employees satisfied in general. Traditional HR management tasks include: Placing job advertisements when a department needs a position filled, responding to employee inquiries about benefits and payroll, and firing personnel. Because this is a reactive function, duties may need to be rushed or fragmented at times. Strategic human resource management (SHRM), on the other hand, takes a broader perspective. A strategic HR manager is concerned with developing a long-term plan. When they are looking to fill a position, for example, they evaluate the company's future growth estimates and aspirations. Strategic HR managers operate proactively rather than reactively, as typical HR managers do. Recruiting people based on long-term goals, educating employees, producing the employee handbook, and designing techniques to help employees achieve the company's goals are all examples of strategic HR management duties.
