Disadvantages of employing people of cross-cultural values
Employing persons of different values brings advantages and challenges such as communication problems, different work cultures, decision-making conflicts, and negative cultural stereotypes and prejudices.
Communication problems.
Asian fishing companies that employ Pacific Islanders experience communication problems due to the difference in accent. Differentiating Direct and indirect communication is also a problem. The most common language in Asia is Mandarin Chinese, which is different from the pacific language. The difference in language hinders effective communication.
Different work cultures
The Asian fishing company that employs pacific islanders witness the difference in work cultures among the multi-cultural employees. The Asian Chinese employees are more focused and hardworking as compared to the pacific islanders. This leaves the majority of Asian employees focusing on heavy tasks while pacific does not handle much
The difference between Asian and pacific islanders is the work schedule. The pacific islanders are more willing to work t night than early in the morning, while the Asians are more willing to attend work early (Chang, 2016)

Asian chief executive officers are known to take more time to analyze an idea before making decisions; this has been witnessed in Asian fishing industries that hire pacific islanders who make decisions more quickly (Chang, 2016)
Negative cultural stereotypes and prejudices
Interaction occurring between individuals of different countries often arouses unconscious cultural biases and stereotypes (TBI authors, ND). Asian companies that hire pacific islanders experience employees prejudices. Asians such as the Chinese may look down upon pacific islanders (Chang, 2016)
