Use examples of your choice to discuss why a quality focus is better than a quantity focus in managing operations.
Quality and quantity focus
A quality focus and quantity focus are two distinct terms used in management. Quality focus entails investing efforts to produce the best product (Dummies authors, ND). The best details, components, or properties are incorporated throughout the process to produce a refined answer. In contrast, quantity focus aligns to massive and robust production of items or services delivery without considering the excellence of products. Total quality management requires an organization to gradually advance its quality and not only eye on instant profits (Pratt, 2020)
Examples 1
Suppose Ford cars company applies quantity focus in car production, invest all their efforts in producing maximum number of automobiles possible per day. In that case, possibly, the quality of Ford cars produced will decline. The drop in quality of products will be detected internally by Ford employees. Also, the drop in quality will be detected externally by buyers, maybe from malfunctions, frequent breakdowns, and more.
Upon application of quality focus, Ford will produce royal and refined cars that attract more buyers in the market. Also, quality focus orientation enables Ford company to design the best models, from engines, car parts, and more, that are more attractive and durable. This attracts more buyers; thus, a quality focus is excellent.
Example 2
A quality focus orientation in the Tecno mobiles industry enhances the production of modern round phones, which accommodates excellent camera quality, more extensive internal storage, and long-lasting batteries. Such excellent qualities attract more customers.
A shift in orientation to quantity focus leads to poor quality phones; some may have defective cameras and short battery life. This discourages customers from buying products.
