Structural Changes

A subsistence economy can become a manufacturing economy, or a controlled mixed economy can become more liberalized. The organization becomes more efficient and effective as a result of this transformation. It requires considerable effort on the part of the entire team, especially the manager, to create a close-knit team with mutual trust and understanding. When it is disrupted, such as by a change of guard, people may find it difficult to operate as efficiently as before. Changes in an organization's structure can sometimes lead to changes in reporting hierarchies, bringing people together who might otherwise have had a conflict of interest.

Such shifts are regular, and they have a great deal of potential to destabilize a team, particularly in the service business. There may be regular modifications or realignment of teams and reporting structures due to changes in customer requirements, restructuring, reorganization, or personnel transfer. Although there cannot be a sudden shock with transfers occurring in a single day, there must be a planned transition procedure.

An assistant director, for example, will always be right below a director on the organizational chart, suggesting that the former reports to the latter. Simple symbols such as lines, squares, and circles are used in organizational charts to connect related job titles.
