Question 1.1

After Channel 4 Dispatches revealed the truth about the coffee plantations which provide beans to Starbucks and Nespresso, Starbucks was involved in a child labor issue. Children under 13 were recorded over a period of roughly 40 hours, selecting coffee for a tenth of a latte's price or a box of Nespresso pods. Children under 13 were in appalling conditions. George Clooney's face welcomed channel 4's survey, and he expressed regret at the results. He asked Nespresso's management team to go further. A human rights activist alleges the evidence that Starbucks and Nespresso breached international labor organization rules. Coffee and Nespresso both started investigating the accusations (Elsby, 2020). The coffee pickers received less than 1p from their payment for the coffee.

While it is not clear if Dispatches' crew videotaped the youngsters during their summer vacations or while missing school to work, both Starbucks and Nespresso said that children's forced labor is at any stage in their supply chain banned. When youngsters are of ages between 7 to 8 years old, they start harvesting.
