In March 2020 an exposé of Britain’s Channel 4’s Dispatches program revealed an ethical breach in Guatemala in which both Starbucks and Nespresso were involved.
2. How did Starbucks respond to the charges?
Starbucks also declared it had a “zero tolerance for child labour anywhere in our supply chain”. It told Dispatches: “We’ve initiated a complete inquiry into the charges presented by Channel 4, carried out in cooperation with a leading third-party auditor.”
Starbucks has already confirmed that "we did not acquire coffee from the farms in concern during the most recent harvest," according to its probe.
Starbucks' global head of coffee, Michelle Burns, stated, "We remain concerned and are taking action because these farms were confirmed in 2019 against our ethical sourcing standards, which are the most stringent in the coffee business."
