Yes culture has a role in influencing consumer buying behaviour. Your culture dictates how you should live and has a significant impact on the items you buy. Women in Beirut, Lebanon, for example, are frequently seen wearing miniskirts. However, if you're a woman in Afghanistan wearing a miniskirt, you risk being harmed or killed. Women in Afghanistan typically wear burqas, which totally cover them from head to toe. Similarly, women in Saudi Arabia are required to wear an abaya, or long black garment. Surprisingly, abayas have grown in popularity in recent years. They are available in a variety of designs, shapes, and materials, with some being adorned with diamonds and costing thousands of dollars.

Even civilizations that share many of the same ideals as the United States can differ significantly. Following the financial crisis of 2008, the United States encouraged governments across the globe to participate in deficit spending in order to boost the global economy. The concept proved difficult to sell to German lawmakers and the general public. Most Germans do not hold credit cards, and accumulating large amounts of debt is not something that people in their society do. Credit card firms like Visa, American Express, and MasterCard must understand how credit is perceived in different cultures.
