The Native Knowledge Systems (IKS) Policy is a foundation for stimulating and strengthening indigenous knowledge's role to South Africa's social and economic development. IKS is owned and provides services to those who are at risk of losing their jobs in South Africa. As a result, the function that IKS can play in the development of jobs must be considered. A planned IKS-based employment program would complement or be integrated into the government's Community Based Public Works Program. This will be one of several programs that will use IKS to help people get out of poverty. As a result, three primary considerations must be considered while employing IKS's economic potential:

• Developing incentive systems to encourage IKS innovation
