How can reinforcement be administered effectively?
By presenting positive reinforcers, positive reinforcement improves and enhances behavior. Primary reinforcers and secondary reinforcers are two types of reinforcers. Food and water are examples of primary reinforcers that meet basic biological needs. Primary reinforcers, on the other hand, do not always reinforce. Food, for example, might not be a reinforcer for someone who has just finished a five-course dinner.
Secondary reinforcers impact the majority of organizational behaviors. Money, position, grades, prizes, and other people's admiration are examples of these. Money, position, grades, prizes, and other people's admiration are examples of these. Because of their connections to the primary reinforcers, these become positive reinforcers and are referred to as conditioned reinforcers.
The following are the four categories of reinforcers
1. Reinforcers that emerge naturally as a result of the activity are known as natural reinforcers (e.g., a salesman does well in sales and makes the highest sales).
2.Token reinforcers are rewards that may be swapped for something of value when particular behaviors are performed (e.g., a salesman does well in sales and get promoted to head sale department).
3. Social reinforcers: those in which others show appreciation of a behavior (for example, a teacher, parent, or employer stating, "Good job!" or "Excellent work!").
4. Tangible reinforcers: genuine physical or tangible incentives are used as reinforcers (e.g., cash, toys, treats; Cherry, 2018).
