Operation management involves planning, implementing, and supervising the process of production of goods and services. It ensures that inputs are converted into outputs efficiently. Inputs could be raw materials, human labor, and also technology(Qin and 2019). This process is overseen by an operation manager.

Key factors in operation management

Planning is the main key factor. Operation managers should plan for the production process by ensuring that anything needed in the process is available. Updated technology( Zhan et all 2019). For every other company, it should ensure that it uses modern technology for its goods to match the tastes of customers. Efficiency is another key concept in operation management, operation managers should report any failure, machine breakdowns, and inadequate resources early in advance to ensure that production is effective. Lastly, the process is used to produce the goods and services should be a reliable and not complicated one.

Examples

An organization should have good decision making which is done by the operation management(Gholizodeh et Al 2019). For instance, if an organization wants to make furniture it should come up with the correct inputs process, and outputs. For these case inputs should be purchasing of wood and fabric, hiring skilled personnel in furniture, buying cutting tools and fabrications. The process entails the art of making the furniture using the inputs. The outputs are the finished furniture such as well knitted sofas or tables.

Another example is whereby an organization wants to manufacture clothes. The inputs needed for this case is inputs are skilled tailors, sewing machines, and fabrics. The process involved in the sewing of the fabric and the outputs are the clothes or any other streetwear.

In conclusion operation management aims at producing goods and services with the available raw materials while maximizing the profits in return.
