Critique this situation with respect to Borton’s job. What suggestions would you recommend to him to ensure that ethical standards in conducting research are adhered to? Does the company need to continue the research? Explain your answers.
Barton is expected to make a market analysis and present a report within a month which could be strenuous for him and may fail to address key issues concerning competition in the new markets. The client seems to have made up his mind on expanding his business internationally and is willing to take whatever risk he might experience. Ethical research requires that Barton adheres to norms and standards concerning knowledge, truth and avoidance of errors. For instance, he should avoid misrepresentation of data to suit the perception of the client which would lead to errors and eventual failure of the business. As a researcher, he should focus on the objectives of the research by avoiding biases in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation. Finally, the ideas he presents should be informative but open to criticisms to enable the client to make a suitable decision concerning the business expansion.
