Leh is at an altitude of 3,524 meters (11,562 ft) and is connected via National Highway 1 to Srinagar in the southwest and Manali in the south via the Leh-Manali Highway. You have been invited as an external IT consultant by the Government of India with a mandate to convert Leh into a "Smart City"

a. Which "Smart" city in the world will you choose as a benchmark to emulate some of the best practices of that city into Leh? Provide at least 3 reasons with brief descriptions behind your choice of choosing that particular city as a benchmark?(5 Marks)

b. Suggest & describe at least 2 innovative technology-enabled services that you will introduce into Leh so that it can be called a "Smart city"? (5 Marks)

a)Hong Kong is one of the world's top growing smart cities, with over 70 initiatives underway in the push for a smart economy and government. Secondly, it has a similar road transport system to Leh, in terms of the 55-kilometer-long Hong Kong-Shuhai-Macao bridge that connects mainland China with Hong Kong and Macao. Leh can embrace some of the strategies in Hong Kong such as the fitting of lampposts along the road/bridge with sensors that could help with internet connectivity. Third, Hong Kong has a new mobile-friendly city dashboard screen that uses data gleaned from various government departments to show real-time images, maps, icons, and charts of information such as average traffic speed in different districts and tunnels, as well as temperature, rainfall, or parking availability.

b)Sensor based systems to operate traffic and waste management. For example having a vacuum in public bins connected to an underground storage. Also, digital data collection would help in the move to digitize services because data can be integrated and distributed accordingly
