The need for a “modern theory on constraint management” arose as a result of the tendency to overestimate activity durations. Why then, if there is a tendency to overestimate activity durations and add in a safety net to the end of a project, do so many projects still come in behind schedule?

The project still come in behind the schedule because of the following reasons:

i) underestimation of project funding, it might be as a result of an anticipated rise of the cost and charges making the project to delay.

ii) poor means of communication between the project manager and other custodians, it may delay because of misunderstandings among the stakeholders working on the project.

iii) inadequate time estimated for the project, the project may take longer duration to be completed than the allocated time.

iv) poor management of the project, leadership is primary in the project success. in case the project leader does not give proper directions, completion of the project may take a substantial time.

v) too many project stakeholders in one project, it may delay the duration for submission due to varying opinions that affect the decision making process.
