Critically discuss how a modern ‘theory’ on constraint management can help solve the management of slack time on sensitive resource-limited projects.
One of the vital problems in the project management is the identifying of the project program, especially, when the resources required are scarce. Conventionally, the resources constrained project schedule is determined using simplified methods, in which there are no other measures to fasten the project completion period delayed due to unavailability of resources . Dr. Goldratt proposed the theory of constraint (TOC) in 1986, outlines the idea of activity period cut. However, since the introduction of TOC, only the Harries semiconductor construction project was reported, and a complete and ideal applicable model for resource limited project management is yet to be invented. The purpose of this study is to make comparisons of the advantages and disadvantages of old project management and TOC project management methods.
