Each day, I complete a variety of activities, some of which are important and others that are not. However, I must schedule ahead of time in order to complete each activity. I rank tasks by importance and then take steps to make them more successful. I may make the following types of plans in my everyday life based on their meaning and significance.

Strategic or operational plan: A strategic or operational plan is a compilation approach that describes how I can achieve the mission's ultimate goal by following a set of clearly defined steps. If I am confronted with a major challenge, I must devise a step-by-step action plan aimed at achieving the ultimate target.

Short-term or long-term solution: An individual's long-term success depends on their ability to develop a long-term plan. A long-term plan will last anywhere from four to five years for certain people. Others will only see two to three years into the future while making long-term plans. After that, it becomes difficult to predict the future with any degree of certainty. Short-term plans are those that allocate money for a year or less. They are also known as operating plans because they deal with day-to-day duties and routine personal operations. Different execution requirements ensure that various short-term plans are implemented. As a department manager, for example, I am confident in the department's ability to carry out a year-long organizational plan.

Specific or directional: specific plans are outlined in great detail, with no room for interpretation. The plans must have specific objectives and be free of ambiguity. For example, by the end of my third year, I plan to have completed my undergraduate degree. On the other hand, directional plans are flexible plans that include broad life guidelines. The plans are preferable in a complex environment where individuals must be adaptable to unpredictable changes.
