a) Analyze SIX (6) life stages in leisure and recreation industry.
- Initial Phase:largely extrinsically/externally motivated, beginners, few expectations, learning about the activity, just happy to be doing the activity
- Learning Phase: becoming more competent (gaining skills), accept larger challenges, desire success (it is important), making mistakes and learning from them, learn more about the activity (terminology), develop goals and soliat feedback
- Specialization: Applies to competency is very important, relatively few leisure activities, attending workshops/trainings, acquiring specialized equipment, largely internally/intrinsically motivated, teachings beginners, becomes a part of your identity. Specialized stage can be divided into personal identity and self awareness stage
- Personal Identity: professional, you are the activity. Specialized within some aspect of the activity, committed, end result not as important as process
- Increased self awareness: expands sense of self; move to and live in places because of the activity
- Professional stage: engage in serious leisure: for example, the amateur, hobbyist, and volunteer.People in serious leisure pursuits have “leisure careers.” They expend the same kind of time and energy we normally associate with work to develop the skills and knowledge needed to progress at their chosen leisure activity.
b) Explain TWO (2) types of land based recreational activities.
- aeroball: A mixture of volleyball, trampolining, and basketball - Aeroball is an exciting, vigorous sport. Four players learn the basics required - then spring into action! The aim is to get the ball in the opposing players net. As well as being lots of fun, the players will develop team tactics and improve communication skills at the same time.
- Mountain climbing: Mountaineering is the sport of climbing a mountain. Regardless of the length of the trip which can range from a few hours to multi-day expeditions, mountaineering is more physically demanding than hiking. There are two main styles of mountaineering: expedition style and alpine style.
