The church split in 1054 was mainly caused by language within the church and different ideologies. The Eastern Church knew most Greek and less Latin while the Western church knew most Latin and less Greek. This created a language barrier among the popes and their congregations. Besides, the two churches also had different beliefs. The West believed that it was more practical on emphasizing on humanity rather than divinity while the east believed in the opposite and were more theoretical with the teachings. Therefore, this created a rift between them
