The French policy of assimilation of First Peoples Nation was never successful. It appears so since after ten years of assimilation people would get tired and relocate to new places making it difficult for the French government to keep track of them. It was also difficult to rule the nations on dictatorial terms since the assimilated French-speaking persons were given French rights.
