During the World War 1, the German vessels patrolled the Atlantic waters, which would prevent the American forces from arriving in Europe. However, to help the American soldiers to arrive safely, British ships carried them across the ocean. The ships travelled in a convoy system to help in preventing any attacks from the German submarines.
