During the 18th century, the Enlightenment was an intellectual revolution that dominated Europe. It promoted principles like liberty tolerance, separation, progress, fraternity, , and constitutional government of state and church, all based on the premise that rationality is the fundamental foundation of power and credibility. Nevertheless, class, gender, and race historians point out that Enlightenment values were not intended to be universal in the modern sense. The Existentialist philosophy Movement promoted a community based on intellect rather than faith and Catholic teaching, as well as a new civil order based on science based and natural law on experiments and observation. The radical enlightenment, which advocated democracy, individual liberty, freedom of expression, and the abolition of slavery, was one of two different strands of Enlightenment thinking.
