Ma'ans Sanjata was an epic poetry who belonged to the Mandinka people from West Africa who was born a lame. He lived in the 13thcentrury and was the king of the Mali empire. He was a quasi-mythological biography of King Sundiata Keita, who founded the Mali empire that lasted for more than 165 years. The poem is also a central cultural narrative of the Mandinka people, who today live throughout Mali, Guinea, and the Ivory Coast. While in Mema, Sundiata grows and is said to develop the strength of a lion.
