Political independence of India
The Indian independence movement was a series of events which started in 1857 and lasted up to 1947. This was under the British as colonial master. Bengal was the first region where nationalistic revolutionary movement started which later spread to other parts of India. As a result of this the Indian National Congress was formed which agitated for the Indian Rights in the for the Indian Civil Service examinations in British India. The last stages of the self-rule struggle from the 1920s was characterized by Congress's adoption of Mahatma Gandhi's policy of non-violence and civil disobedience, and several other campaigns. Poets and writers such as Rabindranath Tagore, Subramania Bharati, and Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay spread patriotic awareness.
