Wilson’s 14 points included proposals to ensure the world enjoys an everlasting peace across the world: the main agendas in the 14 point include; open agreements, arms reductions, freedom of the seas, free trade, and self-determination for oppressed minorities.

Main causes of World War I

Imperialism

The real causes of World War I included politics, secret alliances, imperialism, and nationalistic pride. However, there was one single event, the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria, which started a chain of events leading to war.

Nations competed for more land, colonies and raw materials. Great Britain and Germany competed industrially, which led to these nations needing more raw materials. Also, Austria-Hungary controlling the Slavic land of Bosnia, which Serbia believed belonged to them.

Militarism

Military power and arms race led to fear and suspicion hence fueled the competition of the manufacture of weapons among the nations. This resulted to the manufacture of machine guns, poison gases, war tanks, war crafts, battle ships and submarines by various powerful countries.

Alliances

The alliance system meant that countries were obliged to help other allies so if one declared war, the other had to do the same

Nationalism

The use of nationalism gave nations false hope and aggressive to win the war. Even if they weren’t able in terms of technology to win the war.

9). A readjustment of the frontiers of Italy should be effected along clearly recognizable lines of nationality. The peoples of Austria-Hungary, whose place among the nations we wish to see safeguarded and assured, should be accorded the freest opportunity of autonomous development.
