In your own perspective, how do you assess and evaluate the political system of government during the 1st Republic that was governed and under the leadership of President Emilio Aguinaldo? Do you believe that good governance reigned over during that period and practiced by our leaders?

The 1^st Philippines Republic was an independent sovereign state that was not recognized. It was established by proclamation of Malolos constitution under the leadership of Emilio Aguinaldo. Although they were under constant wars, with under the leadership of Emilio it was considered to be the first proper constitutional republic in Asia that called for a true democratic representation. In my view, there being a constitution and a leader who fought for the freedom of his people the political system was democratic and a true representation of the people. Again, Emilio having declared himself as the president depicts his nature of dictatorship of taking power by force and not by the will of the people.

I do not believe that good governance reigned over during this period because they were taken under another colonial power, United State and there were constant wars which led to revolutions and which saw Emilio surrendering and swearing allegiance to the US.
