The author of Pigafetta's account, Antonio Pigafetta, is well known today as well as at the time of the writing and his writing is of manifold significance. He was an Italian scholar and pilgrim from Venice. His account was and is still an important source of information about the voyage itself and the early western description of the people and languages of the Philippines. His account is considered one of the finest discovery and exploration literature to date. Today, three printed books and four manuscripts survive, portraying him still relevant to date.
