Reasons why Khoekhoe were sometimes willing to cooperate with Europeans before 1652.
The Khoikhoi were not a cohesive people who shared a common view on Dutch colonization, among other factors. Perhaps they might have sought to collaborate if they had realized that the Dutch occupation of the Cape would eventually lead to their utter destruction and near-extinction. The different Khoikhoi communities may not have seen the Dutch as a threat in the early years of their encounters with them, instead considering them as another potentially helpful actor and even collaborator. The Khoikhoi are no different from other communities in early colonial areas in this regard.
