History provides the basis for understanding events that occurred in the past and assists in coping with similar occurrences if they arise in the future. It assists in understanding the origin of the civilization, therefore, learning our origin. Our past influenced our civilization, culture, and identity. In order to comprehend our present perspective, we need to reflect back on what occurred to our forefathers. For example, you would anticipate that after 300 years of Spanish domination we would have more native Spanish speakers, similar to Latin Americans. One can comprehend the Filipinos, their culture, and identity by studying their history which is why it is important that history should be taught particularly to young people in their formative years. Unfortunately, the study of Philippine history has been eliminated from the junior and senior high school curriculum under the K to 12 programs. Under this program which was said to reform Philippine education, the last time the student will be able to have a course in Philippine history would be in Grade 5 and the next time they will encounter anything that had to do with knowing the past of his country would be in college under the course Readings in Philippine History. For many, the study of history becomes essential in comprehending society, culture, and, even personal identity.
Theoretically, civilizations developed as humans learned to adapt to their environment in order to survive (Atienza et al. 77). Social evolution occurred primarily as a consequence of socialization and enculturation processes. 77) (Atienza et al. Initially, people formed small communities that grew into huge civilizations with remarkably similar material goods, surroundings, and customs. As a result, social structures have developed from hunter-gatherer tribes to agricultural communities and industrial civilizations. History has shown us that interactions over a fairly frequent topic have an effect on how individuals live and interact with other members of society. As such, social groups in the Philippines, such as the LGBTQ community, were established and bonded by a shared culture and social movement principles. The behavioral patterns passed down through generations of a developing society and culture provide a connection to current events. In the aim of avoiding a recurrence of the same error, this enables us to look back and identify previous errors and difficulties that may be rectified and avoided in the future.
