Ubuntu is a philosophy that means the interconnection of the human race. During European exploration, the Europeans used divide and rule system. This was aimed at separating people so that they do not collaborate to fight against the European regime in pursuit of raw materials and acquisition of the fertile lands. Africans the Ubuntu slogan to stay united and enhance cooperation. It encouraged people to live in peace and harmony amongst themselves and thus people accepted one another regardless of race and origin. Secondly, the ubuntu spirit enabled people to work together and help one another in various ways since they believed that they existed for the benefit of each other. Thirdly, it enabled Africans to embrace people from other continents and accept their way of life. It strengthened the relationship between them which later became mutually beneficial. Finally, ubuntu encourages positive interaction and exchange of skills and knowledge among people.
