Fuelwood and charcoal as sources of energy are problematic, discuss how does the ‘chorkor smoker’ ensure energy efficiency
The use of charcoal and fuelwood as sources of energy is challenging since they pollute the environment and pose a significant risk to the health of individuals. In addition, most respiratory diseases are linked to these sources of energy. A chorkor smoker is an oven that is utilized for the smoking of fish. The smoking of fish is an effective method used for preservation in African countries. The chorkor smoker uses a smaller fuel amount to smoke a larger amount of fish; thus, this method is energy efficient in that it reduces the cutting of trees to acquire wood. Also, this method enhances even smoking and reduces the loss of heat and smoke. The use of this oven prevents the generation of soot or black coal that pollutes the environment.
