The indigenous agricultural knowledge has contributed immensely to the Ghana's agricultural sector since it has helped in food security by growing “hard” crops like maize, cassava and beans. Despite the many changes in the agricultural practices, most smallholder farmers use indigenous knowledge in farming mainly because this knowledge has been tested over generations and proved effective and adaptable to specific agroecological conditions and, at the same time, it meet needs for food, fodder, firewood, and lumber.
