The Chinese did want to sell their Porcelain and silk but they had no desire to "Trade" with the foreigners. Overwhelmed by the Western military response, the Chinese were humiliated by having to pay reparations and allow concessions to the Western powers that effectively denied them control over their own country.

Modern Japan was profoundly influenced by Western colonialism in wide-ranging ways one of it being; it banned Japanese overseas travel and contact with foreigners, and gave the government a monopoly over foreign trade.

Japan kicked all Westerners out. They would kill all Westerners that were there, and also decided that they would learn from the west but do what they did better than the west. They took an American fleet and Invaded Japan. Then gave the emperor gifts.

Since the Rwandan Genocide of 1994, Congo has had a great amount of ethnic conflict and civil war, the main cause being that of the vast amount of refugees that fled Rwandan during the Rwandan Genocide.
How Congo responded to imperial influence
The people from nearly all African nations attempted to resist the foreign invaders. However, the Europeans had much better weapons and were more organized than the Africans.
