2. Why did many Protestants not accept the Catholic Church ?
Protestants differed with the Catholic on the idea of papal supremacy and sacrament. They believed that the papal position was to misuse Christians and that he should not represent Christ. The protestants also opposed the idea of praying through Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus Christ. Additionally, the Catholics upheld purgotry, believing that there can be redress of sin after death, which according to protestants, was impossible. Protestants also refused to recognize seven books from the Bible, arguing that the writers were not inspired by God. The celibacy among the Catholic priests was another issue. Protestants believed that priests should be allowed to marry since they were secretly engaging in sexual immorality.
