explain US involvement in ending of Cold War.
The United States under President Richard Nixon implemented new international relations approaches. He reached out to China and encouraged recognition of the Communist Chinese by the United Nations. President Nixon also engaged the Soviet Union through Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT) in 1972. The treaty dealt with nuclear-war threats that dominated for decades. When President Ronald Reagan took over, he started providing military and financial supports to anticommunists. The Soviet Union had begun disintegrating due to political turmoil and severe economic challenges. The Soviet Union’s European influence declined and all other communists introduced non-communist governments.
