Byzantine or Islamic civilizations during the Early Middle Ages
Although, people living under the Byzantine Empire believed themselves as Romans, the culture of the empire changed over the years. The Byzantine Empire has had a significant influence in changing many cultures due to its role in shaping Christianity and Islamic world. For instance, Byzantine architecture particularly for buildings can know be found in several regions from Egypt to Russia. Furthermore, during the period, art and literature flourished artists adopted and inherited a naturalistic style and versatile techniques from ancient Roman and Greek art mixed with Islamic and Christian themes. Besides, Byzantine art from the era had a strong influence from painting works of the Italian Renaissance. Also Byzantine scholars were not left out since there were inherited traits passed through grammarians, poets, astronomers, scientists, philosophers, among other fields.
