U.S President Richard Nixon ordered Attorney General Elliot Richardson to fire Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox but Richardson refused and immediately resigned. Nixon then ordered Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus to fire Cox but Ruckelshaus refused and also resigned.
