Texans took part in the Civil War in a bid to protect the state’s rights, preserve slavery, and show love to the Texas. Although most Texans did not own slaves, they were against the interference of their right to own slaves as one desired. The Southerners always believed in agriculture and they needed slaves to work on their plantations to grow and harvest crops. The eradication of the practice would affect their economy. The southerners also opposed high tariffs on imported goods in that their imported products would cost more, an aspect that would affect the economy
