Different countries in Asia and Africa used power based on several dynamics, one of which depended on the royal leaders. Mali is a state in West Africa. Mali, during the period between 1200 and 1450, exercised power by using an expert military leader named Mansa Musa (Kpundeh, 2011). The military leadership was a significant force to control the gold and salt trade in the region between communities. On the contrary, some states like the Mandingo community utilized the centralized system of leadership to exercise power. The centralized system of administration consisted of chiefdoms and kingdoms.
In conclusion, different communities had different systems of leadership, depending on several dynamics. However, the majority of African states preferred centralized governance to oversee the distribution of public resources.
